Llandaff Regatta!!!!!!!!
What can I say 7 POTS in one weekend
the photo below sums it up basically, there is a rumour that CSRC came second (thats right 2nd) in the Victor Ludorum!
winners in order:
Saturday - Ruby WNov 1x, Ieuan J15 1x (close though Louis could have won), Ieuan and Louis J15 2x
Sunday - Rebecca B W J13 1x (yes she is J12!) Tom Nov 1x, Ieuan and Louis J15 2x, Tom and Rhys Nov 2x
three lost their Novice status (but only two got wet!), Rhys lost by 0.5 Length to a very good Wycliffe J16 lad and Steph Chris and Emilly had a real go at a very good J15 entry. its worth noting that the twins beat their quad partners from habs in the WJ152x and Ieuan and Louis beat Wycliffe, Monmouth Comp and Hereford over the weekend.
The Seniors were in attendance racing Nov 4+ and getting through to the Semi Final against a very good Llandaff crew. Lucy and Anna raced in the W Nov 2x and had it not been for an unfortunate steering incident would have had a very good race. We had loads of Nov 1x entries on Sunday giving Tom a bit of a run for his money - notably Francis who got through to the Semi Finals and Toby who unfortunately drew Tom in the first round. there was a decidedly dodgy Mixed 4x entry on sunday morning - Not so much the sculling as the walking!! (Alex...). I think that everyone really enjoyed and my personal thanks to Julia and Tom for being so brilliant with the Juniors who attended while I was swanning off Umpiring :-)

Swansea Junior Sculling Day Camp
The all-day Junior Training Camp last month was a success, with juniors from Swansea and Penarth partaking in four water sessions. We did some video analysis and had the chance to try out lots of different boats and different coaching perspectives. Daniel won the prize for the most complicated capsize, and Oli put in some very good sculling but also won the prize for the most capsizes - again! Steph and Chris learned to row a pair (without a rudder!) in under half an hour, and everyone was demonstrating good slide control by the end of the day. Analysis of start technique also paid off nicely at Llandaff Regatta, with some very fast starts from Swansea crews. Good work, juniors!
Many thanks to Tom, Cath, Toby, Alex, Ruby and Chris for their help, and to the juniors for putting so much good work in. We hope to run another one in August, racing schedules permitting.
Thanks to all, Julia

An experience to build on and deffinately repeat.
Well done Ieuan, Steph and Chris

Junior Training Camp - Henley 2010
The Juniors section of the club had the oppertunity to attend a 4 day training camp at Upper thames in Henley
4 of the Juniors went on the camp and really enjoyed the experience, paddling on the same water as the great and good.
March/April 2010
Junior Inter regional Competition - Nottingham
In March three club Juniors went to Avon County to the Trials for the WAGS Junior Inter Regionals Team.
Chris and Steph Todd competed in the J15 2x and Steph was selected to trial in a composite welsh J154x+, Ieuan wen to trail for the J151x slot.
the Juniors all competed brilliantly, Steph and Chris put in a gutsy performance in a very competative 2x but Ieuan supprised himself and a few others by winning the J15 1x by a bit of a margin seeing off some experienced oposition.

On 25th April we went to Nottingham and arrived to a flat calm lake just in time to get 5mins on the water before racing started. It was a scary few hours for all of us, but Ieuan just missed the A final by less lan a second and ended up drawing the seeded lane for the B Final, unfortunately the wind got up and the advantage was lost with Ieuan not achieving the position he deserved despite a really spirited race.
Well done to all three of you but especially Ieuan.

Evesham Junior Head
I took 6 of our more senior juniors and to boats to Evesham this weekend to have a go at a 1900m course with a bit of mixed opposition.
Rhys and Jo P and Sarah and Emily races their Doubles whith Ruby and Cath in the Pair. with a 4 of them doubling up into singles.
We had mixed results through the day, with Rhys and Jo valiantly staying in front of an ever closing pack but eventually sucumbing to an Hereford Cathederal school 2x who ran straight over the top of them. There was only a minute separating the first and last crews over the course which is not bad for their first race together.
Emily and Sarah N and Cath and Ruby on the other hand had different experiences. the Double looked masterful as they came down the river holding the technique and being rewarded with a silver medal! Cath and Ruby had a fab row on the top half of the course but Rubys back was hurting BUT despite backing off on the last section of the course still came home with Gold.
Mention should also be made of Sarah (I can't do this Nawel) who came home with a bronze medal in the singles with a very competative time.
Onwards and upwards (we hope).
27th September
Monmouth Autumn Head
The Club attended Monmouth Winter Head in force this year with over 20 entries.
Some of the Juniors were racing for the first time and aquited themselves very well with some impresive times coming out of the race.
We had more senior crews compeeting this time and were rewarded with a couple of wins!
Welldone to James P and Christian who came home with a medal and to the Vet/Junior composite of Ruby, Cath, Sarah H and Helen who beat a Habs crew to the gold medal by 10 seconds. A mention should also be made of the Vet mens quad who despite a clash with an unruly sculler at the top of the course were only 4 seconds behind the llandaff quad - they are having another go at them in Cardiff - good luck this time round!
17th July 2009
GB National Championships - Nottingham
Ruby attended Junior trials and although unwell impressed enough through the season to be allowed to compete at final trials for the Nat Champ crews who then go on for selection for the Home countries international team.
Ruby made the coxed 4 for nat champs!
This involved traveling and training at llandaff the week before the National Championships in Nottingham - There was a possibility that the crew, had they done well, may have been selected for the HCI a week later. Unfortunately they came up against two english crews battleling for the slot to HCI and very in form scottish crew. As it was the crew very nearly got to HCI, but cost was a major factor.
If you see her please give her your support as it is hard work and a fantastic achievement for ruby as she has another year to go at juniors and is young to have been selected.
I think you will all agree that the junior section shows strength and depth and after only 10 months of training have produced some out standing results to be held up with the rest of Wales. Well done all of you.
11th and 12th July 2009
Llandaff Regatta
we have not had too much racing but what has been done has been a learning curve I think you would agree.
notable achievements are thr Womens Novice 4+ WINNING in style on the saturday and Rob friz and James P in the Nov 2x and the mixed 8 (how did you lose!!!). The others to be noted are the womens quad who are learning fast and struggling for a regular crew and opposition. Veteran rowing is never easy as you have such a mixture of experience but I think we make the most of what we can do and the winter season is looming giving us all an opportunity to sort the crews out and get some real work under our belts.
20th June 2009
Womens Henley representation
For the first time ever the club has Junior representation at Womens Henley Regatta.
Trystan Elvins one of the Clubs J16 scullers was selected to scull in a composite 4x with Monmouth Haberdashers school.
It is the first time that J16 events have been held at the regatta and Trystan trained hard traverling to monmouth for outings over the two weeks leading up to the event and compeeting in the crew at Reading Amateur Regatta the week before.
Trystans crew sculled well in the qualifiers but due to a very tight field and a major crew change the morning of the event were unable to progress to the final stages of the draw.
Well done Trystan!

Safety Launch Naming Ceremony
click on the image to view the video
Afon Tinplate kindly sponsored the club to the tune of £1000 which enabled us to apply for sports match money providing a safety launch for the club with safety equipment and blades for the junior section. Although the sponsorship was directed at the junior section of the club to enable further development on the water, the whole club has benefitted from the launch which provides safetuy cover and a coaching facility
Sunday saw showers but the club was undetered. The New safety Launch was to be named and launched by Sue Parsell the finance Director of Afon Tinplate Kind sponsors of the Club. The Champagne deffinately followed (Although I think Bill had his hands on the bottle a little too quickly
). Christian has put together a video of the event above, and there are a selection of photos in the album. Thanks once again to all our friends at Afon Tinplate and the sports Council for enableing the purchase of the Launch and 3 pairs of junior blades.

Monmouth Sprint Regatta

Well...............! What a day we have had again. Today we had 8 crews entered in Monmouth Sprint Regatta. no less than 5 Junior crews, including some of our younger club members some racing for the very first time at a regatta. All the crews raced well with a noticable improvement in technique and power from evesham. The day was most enjoyable from a coaching point of view culminating in a win at womens junior doubles, the Clubs first proper Junior win. Well done Girls! it just shows what hard work ( and a little bit of revision avoidance :-) can achieve. (picture shows the girls having their pots presented by Olympic Silver Medalist Tom Lucy) A special mention must go to our University cousins for their well deserved wins at IM3 8+ and 4+ onwards and upwards! |

Mars Refuel Award

Today, Sarah was contacted by the radio station Talksport to say that the club had been shortlisted for a £5000 award from Mars.
at 9pm live on air we were told that we had been successful in our application and that the plight of the club had touched the judges.
The very generous award will enable the club to buy a new general purpose boat that will be suitable for beginers both child and adult and will provide a great boat for the less able of our members.
the Club would like to thank (kiss and hug!!) both Talksport and Mars for their very kind and generous award.
THANKS!!!!!!
